In Bradley University’s IM 360 class, we had the opportunity to work with Caterpillar designers and researchers for the Caterpillar Design Challenge. During the challenge, our class was divided into teams. We had six weeks to collaborate with our team and two UX mentors to research, ideate, and create initial designs. We then conducted unmoderated usability tests on those designs with real users.
On Challenge Day, we met at the Caterpillar building in Peoria. Our UX mentors guided us through a research synthesis workshop where we synthesized our user testing findings, identified areas for improvement, and made changes to our designs based on user feedback. At the end of the day, we presented our final design concepts to Caterpillar employees and judges.
Our design topic focused on the Cat Rental Store Attachment Picker—”Aiding new Cat Store customers in selecting the right attachments for their assets.”
